What is natural gas?

Natural gas, as it is obtained is a mixture of various different gases. It primarily contains methane and apart from this it has some amounts of ethane, propane, Nitrogen, butane, helium, carbon dioxide and hydrogen sulphide. Though natural gas contains all these different gases to be able to use it, it should be made free from all these. Natural gas undergoes extensive processing to be able to be used. Once it is processed and free from all materials only then can it be used as a fuel.

Some Applications

There are many different applications for which natural gas is used. Its main use is for power generation. Power or electricity is generated from natural gas through steam turbines or gas turbines. The burning process of natural gas by which the steam for these turbines is produced is more cleaner than any other fossil fuel. It also releases less amount of carbon dioxide while burning. Other than power generation natural gas is also a major source of cooking gas that is used in our kitchens. It is also used to produce hydrogen and is extensively used as a fuel for vehicles.
